As technology has grown, items such as computers, laptops, and even televisions are becoming as common. The constant use of these items often leads to eye or vision damage. And this is why we need prescription glasses.
Prescription eyeglasses are very common in today’s society, to the point where it is almost impossible to walk down a street and not find someone wearing a pair. However, the cause of this increase of eyeglass users can be linked back to their lifestyle. Technology has made great progress, and because of this, material possessions such as the computer and television, are now a common commodity. It is rare to find families that do not own both a computer and a television, or even either of them. This is because they are both great sources of entertainment.
Using the entertainment factor, children are amongst the population which needs prescription glasses. Often, when children get home, they sit on the couch, turn on the television, and watch it to no end. Goodbye to the time where children went outside with other children, both to play and have fun. It was a much healthier option than becoming a couch potato. The long exposure from watching television, especially if it was too close, can have its detrimental effects the sense of sight. It will start to degrade over time as the children are often unaware of this. To prevent your child from possibly suffering from eye damage, simply put a limit on the television exposure.
Teenagers are also affected in a negative fashion by the technology of today. Teens, known for their need of human contact from their friends, often search for ways to constantly keep in contact with other people. Technology has answered their woes in the form of cell phones, but also through the internet. A powerful source of knowledge, the internet can also be accessed to contact peers from all distances. If teenagers are not out and about, they are often glued onto their computer screen, and locked in their own room. The long exposure of the computer screen often causes problems for the teenager’s vision. This damage can be permanent not taken care of immediately. However, similar to the children’s television dilemma, there is also a way to prevent this possible damage. As a parent, there can be many ways to limit the access to the internet. Finding ways in doing so can be rewarding. Limited the teen’s time on the computer can also be beneficial.

Technology, a blessing for man, but a curse for their vision.
